Women Bishops Legislation
Statement by Lincoln Forward in Faith Council.
We must regret the decision taken at the General Synod of the Church of England in July to introduce women bishops into the Church. For us it is a sadness that our church has seemingly turned aside from the example of our Lord and the Apostles and also destroyed all hopes of unity between the Church of England and the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches. Nevertheless we are encouraged that the legislation makes adequate provision for traditionalists, by retaining the Sees of Richborough, Ebbsfleet and Beverley, speaks of a desire that we should flourish, and acknowledges that those who do not agree with the ordination of women as priests and bishops are “loyal Anglicans”.
We look forward now to the inauguration of “The Society” as an Ecclesial entity, under our bishops and formed of priests, parishes and their laity working together to defend, promote and propagate the faith “once delivered to the saints.” This is our task in the months and years ahead. We are still going “forward in faith.”
